June 2, 2012 - Used Book Sale in Moody

Used Book Sale
Saturday, June 2, 9 am to 1 pm
Community Presbyterian Church Gym----Everyone can sell!!! See info. below.
825 Oak Boulevard | Moody, AL 35004 | 205-640-2174 |www.crossroadschristian.us

Mark your calendars for the first used book/curriculum sale of the summer! For those of you who have never participated in one of our school’s used book sale, here is an explanation of how to get ready for it!

How the Sale Works

The gym is divided into sections. Material is divided by grade from preschool through grade 6, then by subject matter for grades 7-12. Areas are set aside for readers, teacher resource materials, multi-level use, games, and miscellaneous. There’s also a section devoted to “free” materials (anything you’re willing to give way).

If you’re selling items at the event, please mark all your materials carefully. If something is free, write “free” on it or on a label stuck to it. Otherwise, on each item attach an envelope listing your name, item’s name, recommended grade level (if known), and the price. If you have more than one item in a set, band the materials together and write how many pieces are in that set on your envelope. Purchasers will place the purchase amount in these envelopes.

When you bring books to set up, register with the cashier, who will label a large envelope with your name and phone number. This envelope will be used to collect individual envelopes which contain payment for materials you sell.

If you have time and are able to do so, you might consider making a master list of your books and curriculum, for your use when you pick up your money and unsold materials on Saturday.

Schedule for Set-Up and Sale

Set-up will be on Friday, June 1, from 2-4 pm, and Saturday from 8 to 9 am. The sale will begin at 9 am Saturday and close promptly at 1 pm. Plan to return at 1 pm on Saturday to pick up your money and any unsold materials, or have a friend do it for you. CRCS is not responsible for any materials left in the gym.

Volunteers Needed

This sale is run by volunteers. Everyone who plans to sell materials must volunteer to help with either set-up on Friday afternoon at 2 pm; no books can be put out until the gym is set up. Or stay late on Saturday and help with moving tables back to where they go. This begins around 1:15 or 1:30 since we must give time for books to be collected by sellers. We also need two or three cashiers to work shifts (9-11 am, and 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday). Tables have to be moved from other buildings to the gym, and then taken back on Saturday afternoon. Signs have to be put on walls on Friday and taken down on Saturday. You’re welcome to bring your children to help with these tasks. Contact the Crossroads office if you plan to sell books, and let us knowhow you plan to help.

Second Sale in August

Veteran homeschooling families are usually ready to sell and buy in June. However, new families are still purchasing materials just before schools begins. Crossroads plans to have a second used book sale on August 11.

SAT Thanks!!!

Hi, Cheaha Family!:-D
I just wanted to send out a great, big "THANK YOU" to the SAT test proctors, volunteers, students, cupcake volunteers, and Harvest church for making our test week so smooth! I am very proud of the way the students conducted themselves and I appreciated their positive attitudes! It was special to see the way everyone worked together so nicely! A special thanks goes out to Ty Mobley and Catherine Westley who lead some of our devotions! It really touched my heart that the younger generation was so gracious in sharing what God laid on their hearts! Go Homeschoolers!
Smiles,
Karen Bush

2011-2012 Field Trip Guidelines

2011-2012 Field Trip Guidelines:
Due to a very different schedule for me this year.... my way of doing things will be changed a bit. Also, I have several requests of you to help keep things running smoothly! We have many new members (Welcome! Welcome!) and this info may help you get a feel for how to manage planning of field trips and local outings! I hope this is helpful, because it is longer than I prefer.

(1) My reminders this year will be simple (see below) and less frequent... if you register for an event, please write the details down on your calendar immediately. If changes occur, I will post quickly on this site. If it is the morning of the event, I will even try phone calls.

(2) If you register, please remember that you did so. I know that I wont' be able to post names this year and numbers registered. I am beyond busy this year with the Co-op, the field trips & rec, scout popcorn campaign, and a toddler under my feet at all times ... You will not get as many reminders as in the past....

(3) Always check the blog and newsletter first for details/questions on fees, deadlines, dates, and times (fabulous resources).... you can visit the websites of our hosting facility for directions, pictures, and even info about picnic areas & nearby attractions . If your question is still not answered (and this is very possible), please email me.

(4) Please do not contact the facility regarding unusual circumstances or special requests. Please contact me and lets see what we can do together.

(5) I am very sorry , but I can't issue refunds after the registration deadline. I do not have the money and the facilities do not give refunds.

(6) Cancelations do happen. No worries. Just let me know if you can't attend. It helps me our Cheaha volunteer helping at the event with our registration, etc. They will not wait on you if they are notified that you aren't coming. Very considerate and extremely helpful to us. (Thanks in advance! )

(7) Please ARRIVE 15 minutes earlier than the posted time. (do not use the times on the event websites). Our times posted are often different than the time advertised by the hosting facility b/c we have to gather and enter as a group, register, pay last minute fees, etc. This is all taken into consideration when posting an arrival time. Please help us with this one..... (if you suspect an error, it can happen, just email me and we can check on it - I do error - sorry about it and I try to check things over).

(8) Outdoor events do not get canceled unless weather is violent (tornados, lightening). Rain and wind and "general yuck" don't cancel the events. Refunds aren't given. Sometimes a raincheck might be issued... I always ask under such circumstances. But the odds of this type of situation are not common. This info might help if you are new to the group or buying tickets to re-enactments, etc. They are awesome.. but "rain or shine". Just toss in a poncho & wear good shoes!

(9) Please MINGLE! MEET THE MOMS and DADS at the events - encourage your kids to step out and say hello to new students that they meet in our group! I have met my BEST FRIENDS on CHEAHA FIELD TRIPS! They are wonderful! I am so thankful that I spoke up and said hello. MINGLE! Let me encourage you to meet your field trip neighbor!

REMINDERS: Upcoming Registration Deadlines.... (see blog or your newsletter for details of these events)

http://www.cheaha.blogspot.com/

American Village CONSTITUTION (middle & high schoolers only) - deadline to register is Sept 16

GA History Timeline Re-enactment & Living History Day - deadline to register is SEPT 9 (this Friday)

Alabama Symphony (all performances) Orchestra - deadline is SEPT 16

Bham Children's Theater (all performances) - deadline is SEPT 16

Bham FIREMan's/Fire Truck Museum - deadline is Sept 23 (this is a trip that works well with Cinderalla at BCT)

THANKS for reading this. I tried to answer questions that have been presented to me lately. I hope I got most of them answered. Just let me know.

Blessings, Paula

Field Trip Registration Information!! PLEASE READ!

Please save this information in your calendar or on your computer... it will help you and I tremendously as the year goes along and you attend field trips.... also, forgive me that a few reminder posts didn't have all this info at the bottom.... I will try harder to not leave it off.... but if I do... you have the info here AND Lee put it right up front on the latest newsletter. Also, please email me when you notice discrepancies or conflicting dates/prices. I do error... sadly.

To register for ANY event .... please, NOTICE THE DEADLINE & mail it to me in advance.... with enough time to RECEIVE it by that deadline. Not on the deadline, please, it may take days to reach me & you may miss out. Most deadlines are convenient w/ plenty of prep time ( I realize the zoo, AV heritage, and golden flake are a bit different due to early timeline). Deadline will be extremely crucial this year b/c (for those of you who dont' know me) I am teaching in this new coop... and I have a toddler under my feet. So, without a schedule and deadlines... I coudln't manage these trips. So, please be considerate of me when registering.

To register for ANY event that has a FEE.... (notice deadline) INCLUDE FEE and following information in your registration.....

With registration, please include

· Name of the performance & date
· PARENT's name,
· best phone number(s) and
· an email address
· # of tickets per price listed

Make all checks payable to: PAULA SMITH

Please mail your registration to Paula Smith, POB 215, De Armanville, AL 36257

Pell City Squadron 118 of Civil Air Patrol - Cadet Field Trip

The Pell City Squadron 118 of Civil Air Patrol had a cadet field trip March 31, 2011, to John W. Inzer Museum, located in Ashville, Alabama.

The Inzer house was built in 1852 and is now home of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans St. Clair Camp 308 and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  The tour guides were wonderful and much was learned about the house, the Civil War, and the role Alabama played in its history.

Civil Air Patrol is an auxillary of the United States Air Force and is made up of cadets (ages 12 and up) and senior members.  The Pell City squadron, made up mainly of homeschooled students, meets each Thursday night at the Pell City meeting center, 6:00 p.m. thru 8:30 p.m.

Tonight the cadets will be meeting at the Lakeside Park (Pell City Civic Center) for P.T. before going to the meeting center.

If you are intested in Civil Air Patrol, please join us one Thursday night and find out more!  You can also visit us on the Web:
