Art Lessons beginning in November

ART CLASSES
for
HOME-SCHOOLERS
with
MARGARET McNARON

I’m offering art classes for 9th thru 12th grade home-schoolers.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays, 1:30 ---
3:00 p.m. on the following dates:
Nov. 4, 11, 18, &
Dec. 2 (skipping Thanksgiving week).
I am a Certified Art Teacher in the State of Ala. and presently teach art part-time at Piedmont High School. I have 2 Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in art, and I’ve worked in various art jobs for the past 35 years.

Classes will be taught in my studio in a downtown Anniston building, which my husband and I own. Depending on past art training, I will tailor classes to give a broad exposure of techniques, materials, and art history, while encouraging individual student’s strengths and skills.

If the Nov. class is well-received, I will offer more classes beginning in January, 2010.
Cost is $70. per month, for 4 classes,
and it includes all art materials.
I will take a maximum of 10 students.

4-H Horse Club Meeting

MEETING REMINDER The Trailblazers 4-H Horse Club meet at the Circle C Saddle Club in Alexandria.

Returning members and new members need to be prepared to complete ALL registration forms that night: enrollment, youth and parent consent & medical form, & helmet and dress code policy). Be sure to bring your medical/health insurance/emergency contact information to complete these forms.

Required fees are $2 per person for the mandatory annual insurance fee (youth and participating parents must pay this) and $5 per 4-H youth for the horse project workbook we will be using this year.

Make checks payable to Calhoun County 4-H Horse Club.

Optional costs are $15 each for a horse club t-shirt (please make this check payable to Calhoun County Extension System).

If you have questions, please contact me. Thanks and see you Monday! Meg Swain 4-H Volunteer

calhouncounty4hhorseclub@hotmail.com

205-789-6159

PS You do not have to own a horse to belong to this club!!!

Directions: Directions: From Hwy 431, turn (west - left coming from Anniston) onto Gate 5 Road (this road is at the traffic light intersection of Downey Drugstore and close to Mount Zion Baptist Church in Alexandria). Drive about 2-3 miles on Gate 5 Road. After a sharp curve, go a short distance and see Circle C on the left.

Please note---the youth do not ride horses at every meeting, and this club is not the place where intense riding instruction is given; however, the youth will have some riding opportunities on Saturday field trips. If riding lessons are desired, I can give you a list of recommended riding instructors in this area. Most of them charge a fee of $30 - $45 per hour.

Horse ownership is not a requirement for this club. Only a third of last year's members owned horses. Also, most of the club's past members have been girls 9-15 years old, but we have had a few boys, too. We will use workbooks as well as games, activities, and field trips to educate youth about horses. Future plans are to have an equestrian drill team and a quiz bowl team to compete at the state horse show in July 2010 or 2011.

Remember, the sign-up meeting is Monday, Sept. 21, when ALL forms and payments need to be completed.

Girls Scouts Information

I've included some information below. For more information, email me at houstonclan@cableone.net or call me at 831-2330 and I'll get back with you ASAP.
Thank You!Tina Houston

Girl Scout Troop 20134 consists of homeschooled girls and meets every other Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:15, starting September 2. (We'll only meet once in November and December to help ease the chaos that seems to happen around the holidays. Also, parents are not required to stay during the meetings.) We usually meet at a small Girl Scout building near downtown Oxford, except for trips and outings planned for each level. We're hoping to do more of those this year, but it's really up to the girls to decide where they'd like to go and what they'd like to do (with guidance and supervision, of course!). We have a great time with friends and enjoy a variety of fun, educational activities, including crafts, science experiments, service projects, games, field trips, music, food, and much more!

If you plan on coming, please contact me at 831-2330 or houstonclan@cableone.net so we'll have enough supplies for everyone, and I'll email you a schedule of all dates through the end of December as well as more detailed directions to our meeting place.

This fall, we are expanding our troop to include girls ages 5-14 (grades K-8), which includes Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette Girl Scout levels.

Also, several people have asked about how much it costs to be involved in our troop. It's a $12 fee (per person) to register, plus you'd need a vest/sash and some books, which should be about $50 or less and could be bought a little at a time. (Also, these only need bought about every other year, since you only need new ones when you promote to a new level and most levels last 2 years.) We almost never have activities that require an additional cost, and they are usually optional ones rather than troop organized if so. Please don't let cost stop you, though! We have scholarships available for those who need them, and supplies can sometimes be found on Ebay if you're merely trying to save a little money.
